About Me

Educational History:

I grew up in Northwest Arkansas and graduated from Greenland High School. After high school, I attended Harding University and majored in Education, grades K-6. I have taught 2nd grade and 4th-6th grades. For the past five years, I have specialized in Reading and have taught 4th grade.

Current Position:

I began working for Decatur School District during the 2018-2019 school year. Last year, I was the Reading and Social Studies teacher for 4th grade. For the upcoming 2019-2020 school year I will be the ELL Director for our district. I am excited and ready to begin another school year. Go Bulldogs!!

Previous Position:

Prior to working for our school district I taught in Siloam Springs, Kansas and Florida. Most of my teaching experience has been in grades 4-6, but I also have experience teaching 2nd grade. While working in Florida I specialized in Reading and gained my ESOL liscensure.

Family Information:

Recently I moved back to Nothwest Arkansas with my husband (Jeremy) and 5 children. We have been married for 20 years. Jeremy works for Decatur School District as the Business teacher and Jr. High basketball coach. My children also attend school here in Decatur. My childrens’ ages range from a junior in high school all the way down to 4th grade. We love being a part of the close knit Decatur family.

Personal Information:

Most of my free time is spent with my family and their extra curricular activities. Some personal interests of mine are reading, art, basketball, football and baseball. I love reading and read a wide range of genres. As a child I got hooked on reading when my grandmother gave me a copy of “Journey to the Center of the Earth” by Jules Verne. When I was in high school, a teacher Mrs. Clemmons, gave me a book about American Modernism. I was soon inspired by O’Keeffe’s flower paintings from the 1920’s-1930’s. As I left for college, the first one to do so in my entire family, this quote from Georgia O’Keeffe always stayed with me...”I've been absolutely terrified every moment of my life - and I've never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.”
